Collection: Nazar Ul Islam
I am a Pakistani visual artist whose practice is rooted in the traditions of Persian and Mughal miniature painting. Trained in classical miniature techniques, I work primarily with gouache and watercolour on wasli, using precision, layering, and colour to build richly detailed compositions.
My work explores the relationship between tradition and contemporary expression. Through miniature painting, I engage with heritage, ornament, and visual storytelling, while allowing the medium to speak in a language that feels both historical and present.
For me, the wasli becomes a space of discipline, imagination, and reflection, where inherited techniques are reinterpreted through a personal and contemporary lens.
