Collection: Qamar Abbas

Qamar Abbas is a visual artist and art educator based in Lahore, originally from the Oshikhandass valley in Gilgit-Baltistan. A graduate of the National College of Arts, Lahore, his practice is shaped by landscape, cultural memory and the visual language of power.

Working with Paper Birch, or Bhojpatra bark, Abbas creates surfaces that carry both material memory and historical resonance. In his Echoes on Birch series, he brings together traditional scripts, calligraphic mark-making and Khat-e-Suls to explore the relationship between land, language and identity.

His wider practice also engages with constitutional texts and currency-based imagery, questioning systems of authority, hierarchy and representation. Through these layered investigations, Abbas connects personal heritage with broader social and political concerns.
