Iqbal
Hussain
Iqbal Hussain was a major Pakistani figurative painter known for his unflinching portrayals of life in Lahore's historic inner city. A graduate of the National College of Arts, Lahore, he developed a realist visual language grounded in empathy, observation and social truth.
His portraits of women from Lahore's old cultural quarters are marked by dignity, restraint and psychological sensitivity. He also painted landscapes and still lifes, bringing a strong command of form, atmosphere and emotional presence to each subject.
