Amerzish Khalid

My work explores the experiences of the women around me, those who shape my understanding of the world. I explore the emotional and psychological landscapes they navigate, capturing moments of love, strength, struggle, and resilience.

These women, with their unique yet shared stories, provide the foundation for my practice. I reflect on how their lives are shaped by societal expectations, personal histories, and the complexities of their relationships.

I intentionally refrain from painting faces in my work, preferring to focus on the body, gestures, and environments that portray their experiences. This choice is based on the desire to make room for the viewer to interact with the piece more broadly rather than focusing on a particular person. The absence of faces allows the emotions and stories to transcend identity, evoking a deeper connection with the viewer's personal experiences.

I hope to reveal the intimate, yet universal, aspects of the human experience, particularly the intricate, sometimes painful, but also beautiful ways in which women move through the world. My practice is an attempt to live within these experiences, translating them into an emotional and visual language that speaks to the collective strength and vulnerability of those who are often unseen.
